Special Educational Needs

At John Shelton Primary School we understand that children have varied life experiences and needs.  We have implemented a range of interventions to enable our children to be successful in life.

The Mulberry Bush Emotional and Social Curriculum

The Mulberry Bush curriculum is for children to be successful with their social and emotional development. This is delivered by our Leaning Mentor in school 4 times a week to small groups of children.

The Mulberry Bush Emotional and Social curriculum focusses learning on the five core competencies of successful emotional and social development:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Responsible decision making

Drawing and Talking

Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic intervention for children, young people and adults. It is designed as a short-term, time-limited, proactive intervention intended to complement, rather than replace, the work of specialist mental health services.   This is delivered by our Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to small groups of children on a one-to-one basis.
